Song(s) of the Day # 3,437 Sweeping Promises

Out of Arkansas. Inspired by New Wave Akron and Athens and aligned to Sub Pop. Sweeping Promises chop up B 52s, Pylon, Devo, Girls at our Best and El Tigre, with a great big cleaver. Then they switch on the liquidiser and do that John Waters party scene dance with gleeful abandon one more time like is 19...81..

Latest album Good Loving is Coming For You is energised back to the future abandon. Geometrics and formulae with tunes and manifestos aplenty. The spirit of  Gyrate and Wild Planet reborn, Cindy and Kate harmonising in their shrill prime and arty, angular guitar, looping bass and scattershot drumming. Athens House Party circa 1981.

This is highly referential and coded. To such a degree that you might as well take it off and play the original classics it's obviously in such thrall to. But it's entirely sincere, has done its research and is note perfect on opening night.

Most of all, its the best fun you can have with your clothes on, (I've used that expression before, but sometimes it's the only one that fully applies).. A technicolor, lurid hoedown in the high school gym. So hurry up and bring your jukebox money.
