1983 Singles - # 45 Sisters of Mercy

Goth was on the rise in '82. Sisters of Mercy who were the archetypes of that movement in many ways were putting out some of their most iconic records. I flirted with it for a short while,, buying some records by Bauhaus, Danse Society and March Violets as well as being deeply loyal to The Cure and The Banshees from the start with Robert and Morticia being in many ways the Gomez and Morticia to that scene.

After this though I shied away, finding the whole thing increasingly ridiculous as it hardened as a scene and bands like The Mission, Balaam & The Angel and Fields of the Nephilim emerged, This is daft but you've got to give Eldritch.

N.B. There seems to be some confusion about whether this dates from '82 or '83. I'm going with Wikipedia
