It has to be said that Dark Side of the Moon is not and never will be my favourite album. I can admire its longeurs and wistful Englishness but in the words of Tom Waits, or nearly, 'they have nothing that will ever capture my heart.'
Oliver Future a band split between Los Angeles and Austin apparently, have certainly listened to plenty of Dark Side, and Pink Floyd in general. Debut album A Year at Home is suffused with their somewhat aloof and detached haughter. Despite my slight indifference to where this comes from, I did enjoy the album.
While offering nothing contemporary really, it's a record that's heart and soul is in 1975, even though it was actually released a couple of weeks ago, A Year at Home makes its case for those who like this kind of thing very well.
