'Another great Australian guitar record.' .this is how Darren Jones, the great and much appreciated supported of this blog, introduced this, the eponymous debut album, (or mini-album, given that it's seven songs long) from Morninton Peninsula, Victoria quartet Doe St.
It's the best description possible of a really great little record. Australia, almost alone these days, is keeping the great Rock and Roll tradition well and truly alive. Everthing that was so wonderful about the Sixties, Seventies, Eighties and Nineties seems to be alive and giddily well and more than likely to be playing on a stage near you if you're fortunate enough to be living in Melbourne at the moment.
Roe St.? They know what they're doing. This is blindingly obvious from a casual listen to any of the songs on this quite thrilling record. Their sound? The open an loose sound of the mid-Seventies waiting for Punk to truly hit. Peter Perrett, Ed Kuepper, Johnny Thunders, Ronny Laine. That should be enough to give you a general idea and whet your appetite. Go listen to the record.
