1982 Singles # 44 ABBA

Just like The Undertones, ABBA were pretty much done by 1982. The Seventies were all their's, the Eighties just not really intended for them. There was a tired, resigned quality, despite its evcellemce, to their final album The Visitors. Probably largely because of the state of relationships within the band by now. They needed a clean break. From each other and from us..From the record, they chose this as one of their last singles/. It got to # 32 in the UK singles charts. The British audience clearly had little interest in this ABBA. A fully grown up and emotionally scarred one. They had Bucks Fizz now. A new land of make believe.

Stil,l, this was excellent product and pointed the direction Bjorn and Benny were heading now. Into musicals, The West En,d and without Agnetha and Frida this time, The Day Before You Came, has a soap-ish quality but it tells a real story and one we all tell ourselves at some point in lfe. What would have happened if the love of our lives hadn't chanced along at the moment that they chanced along. Best not to think about it really, best to just be glad, and appreciate the fact that it happened. But we're all  of us trying to unlock the keys to the universe. That's why we're here.
