LA based Massage feature Alex Naidus, once of Pains of Being Pure at Heart. Half a Feeling, first song from latest album Still Life takes off from a familiar base. Essentially the drumbeat and essential mood of Jesus & Mary Chain's Just Like Honey, itself in considerable debt to The Ronettes and Phil Spector.
Not a bad way to start and the album continues in this direction. Predicated on a jangle that you could trace back to late Eighties British indie pop. Sarah Records, C-86, and all that stuff. Beyond that, once again, most of all to The Bytds.
There's nothing at all that hasn't been heard many, many times before, but Massage's love for this whole way of thinking and doing things is evident and clearly sincere. Still Life is a sweet and undemanding listen and will take you back to the days when the boys from Ride were still rehearsing in their bedrooms.
