Song(s) of the Day # 2,876 Beatrice Deer

 

I am always immediately likely to be taken by an artist called Beatrice Deer. This is a record that backs up that initial liking. SHIFTING, the sixth album in all from this Canadian singer-songwriter, based in Montreal. Sung in three languages. French, English and most intriguigingly in Intuktikut, the indigenous language of her childhood.

Perhaps it's the linguistic element of SHIFTING that gives it it's primary distinctive quality. It gives the record an almost other worldly quality. Regardless, it has a wonderful textural quality that makes you feel like it's spring even though you actually know that it's December. That's highly welcome.
