One perhaps for first time Shoegazers finding themselves adrift in middle age. Beachy Head is some kind of Indie Supergroup made up of former members of Slowdive, Mojave 3, Flaming Lips and The Casket Girls. Their eponymous debut album sounds just as you might expect a record by a combination of musicians such as this to make, ethereal, wistful. out of reach and replete with guitar pedals.
I'd had some expectations for this one but found the product ever so slightly remote and rather disppointing on arrival. The band maintain their distance throughout and it feels a little like I imagine seeing Slowdive or Chapterhouse must have felt like in 1990. A mass of guitars and fringes, faces fixed on the stage for the most point, rather than making eye contact with the audience.
Beachy Head is drenched with atmosphere but comes across like a long art film that never really comes to the point. One to claim you've seen to impress your friends but not something you'd really care to watch again. I'd give in seven. Great sleeve mind.
