It's perfectly clear where Brooklyn trio Nation of Language are coming from in the opening notes of Tournament, the first track on their debut album Introduction, Presence. Their singer Ian Devaney is an absolute spit for The National's Matt Berninger's manly baritone.
Their sound is all New Wave glacial cool. Bubbling synth. Squaring the equation between Joy Division, OMD and Human League. They rarely, no to be honest, they never stray from this formula for the course of the album.
While it's a perfectly likable record, it's not a remotely adventurous one. Not one I'm likely to be coming back to but it might be worth a listen.
