Sometimes you have a day that needs sad songs. That's Nadia Reid's remit. She's an ordinary looking woman from New Zealand who stares into the camera on her album sleeves and does sad songs of orchestrated modern folk. Ironically, in my favourite song off her latest record Right on Time she goes slightly upbeat and pulls off that Elliott Smith trick that sadder people can actually do happy songs better than happy people because they understand the other swing of the pendulum thing so well. Unfortunately, I can't post a link to that particular track on here, so you get The Arrow & the Aim instead in which she proves entirely that she can do sad songs just as well as any other essentially sadness inclined person.
