Song of the Day # 321 The Faces

Ian McLagan's death a couple of days back seemed rather sad to me for a number of reasons. I'm not in the front row of Small Faces and Faces fans though I think both are great bands. It just feels that as these musicians fall away, one by one and it seems fair to guess that in the next few years there'll be something of an avalanche of them, something of the past, from the time when music was an absolutely central part of the culture rather than a peripheral, add on lifestyle option for the committed, dies forever. Anyway, no reason to get maudlin, it's Friday morning after all. Here's one of The Faces best songs, one of Ronnie Lane's not coincidentally and with a fine McLagen contribution. The Faces felt wearier and more lived in than The Small Faces had been for the obvious reason that they were. This has such a feel of London life about it. And Debris is such a great title. So much of life is about Debris. RIP once more.
