I was looking to do another item on record labels, this time on Elektra, the legendary sixties LA label, home to The Doors, Love, Stooges, Tim Buckley etc. While skimming through their early releases on their
website I was struck by their odd early records and roster before they signed Judy Collins and moved towards folk and then to rock. I was so taken with their eccentricity I decided to post a few early sleeves here. It seems to have been an odd mixture of jazz, folk, exotica and comedy. Strange to think Joyce Grenfell shared a record label with Jim Morrison. The actual classic Elektra feature will have to wait.
1. Ken Davern & His Salty Dogs (the label's first album release 1958)
2. Ed McCurdy
3.Theodore Bikel & Cynthia Gooding
4. The New York Jazz Quartet
5.Teddy Charles
6. Oscar Brand
7. Shel Silverstein & the Red Onions
8.Will Holt
9. Joyce Grenfell
10. Zacherley
