Stooges, David Bowie, Roxy Music, New York Dolls, Can, Modern Lovers, Patti Smith, Television, Sex Pistols,Talking Heads, Suicide, Pere Ubu, Blondie, Subway Sect, Only Ones, Joy Division, Echo & the Bunnymen, Orange Juice, Birthday Party, Go-Betweens, R.E.M, Smiths, Sonic Youth, Dream Syndicate, Jesus and Mary Chain, Pixies, Pavement, Stereolab, Belle & Sebastian. I'll stop there but the list could go on and on and on and on. It's difficult to imagine any of these people sounding the way that they did, writing and playing the way they did and often looking the way they did without the massive sea of possibility and opportunity that The Velvet Underground opened up for musicians, artists and audiences. We should all be incredibly thankful to them. Some people say they're overrated!
