Song(s) of the Day # 1,624 Disques Debs

Those people at Rough Trade know you know. At a time of year that seems to have become rather slow in terms of really exciting new albums, they recommended this last Friday. A compilation of the archives of one of the greatest of all French Caribbean labels Disques Debs out of Guadeloupe.

It's a stunning record. Spanning decades and encompassing soca, bolero, zouk and reggae, the joint is jumping from start to finish and you'e soaking up the sunshine in some unsalubrious joint with a dubious cocktail that seemed a good idea at the time in you favourite straw hat. The first in this particular long running series to devote itself to a record label rather than artist. Cin Cin!
