The second, obviously derivative Song of the Day in a row.Twerps, from Melbourne, Australia are self-confessedly in others debt. They aspire to produce a song as good as 'Anything Could Happen' by The Clean. They honour The Go Betweens. Elsewhere you can hear The Chills, The Feelies, (quite clearly in this particular song), Felt, The Moles, The Jasmine Minks and so and so forth. The fact that their music is so embedded in such a well worn tradition was sufficient for The Guardian to discount their new album, just out, as bringing nothing new to the table. It doesn't. But those who love that stuff I've just mentioned will like this. Just in the way that sometimes you want to eat an old meal, tasting exactly like it always used to, there are moments when you want the same from music. Twerps provide it!
