'Looking like a born again. Living like a heretic. Listening to Arthur Lee records...'
'You say you're so happy now you can hardly stand. Lean over on the bookcase. If you really want to get straight. Read Norman Mailer or get a new tailor.'
A nice one this one. Lloyd Cole, the biggest namedropper in song. Not once or twice but right the way through Rattlesnakes his band's debut album. Which is a minor masterpiece or perhaps just a masterpiece about what it felt like to be a young student at college and university released at just the time I was a young student at college and university.
'…a record collection without ‘Rattlesnakes’ is like a kitchen with out a teapot’ Cath Carroll N.M.E. Rattlesnakes review 1984
Perhaps the most important album ever made by a relatively unimportant band. I still go back to it pretty regularly.
ReplyDeleteThat's it. A wonderful record. And one that always makes me feel good.
