It's funny how the history of this album has been revised over time. Some accounts have it being made in a hurry, with only one person present at a time, and then stitching it together after the fact so that it sounds like a whole album, even though it's really only a collection of fragments. And yet, as you say, Marr has said things like that. So it's hard to know what to believe. There's something about it, I think, that resonates. I know you've written about last songs on albums, but as a last (proper) album by a band before it broke up, this one seems especially poignant also.
I also like the idea of last songs on last albums. I imagine that's one I'll get to eventually. This particular one's got a bit of mileage I think. Don't really know about the making of Strangeways but it's certainly a class record
Seriously underrated album, in my opinion.
ReplyDeleteI agree. Though not by the band. I think Marr has said it's his favourite.
