# 44 was about right for the Bunnymen until they made their singles chart breakthrough with Back of Love the following year. A Promise was extraordinary in many ways. For its thrilling guitar figure, for the way that it made you feel it was actually pouring down, for McCulloch's vocals which actually sounded like he was crying his eyes out.
