  3. Hey Clarkey, (I wish you'd write your thoughts in proper, coherent sentences so I can respond to your comments with the full respect to which they deserve).

    Dire Straits were pretty much stable for the duration of Sultans of Swing,(their emotional and spiritual Ararat,which lasted for pretty much 5 minutes in 1978, (I imagine, maybe it was '79).

    After that their stock plummeted in a steep and depressing career curve (which I can give personal testimony to because I experienced it)up to the point where they dropped at a vertical trajectory possibly, as a late kamikaze gesture, into the sea during their Live Aid set in 1985.

    This was strangely their absolute commercial peak. This may well be the Longman Dictionary definition of irony by now!
